Band 2 Cook
Duration: 1 month initially
Rate: £11.45 p/h
Hours: 16 hpw
Key Duties
- The preparation and cooking of meals for young people and staff.
- To oversee and supervise the work of the Assistant Cook and ensure their practice is of an acceptable standard.
- To carry out general household tasks in order to provide a clean and tidy environment.
- Maintaining a warm, welcoming and homely kitchen and communicating positively with the young people who reside in the home.
- Ensuring all purchases are within the homes agreed budget
- Daily requisitioning of provisions.
- Reporting any defects in same.Daily checking of stock, cooked foods, etc and temperature of refrigerators and deep freeze. Ensure, ‘Use By’ or ‘Best Before’ dates are adhered to.
- Reporting of accidents.
- Ensure the worktops, utensils and items of equipment are cleaned regularly
Criteria
1 years relevant experience as a cook working within a commercial catering/Health Care facility.
AND
NVQ level 1 & 2 in Catering Qualification or and Guilds 706/1 plus 706/2 or equivalent.
OR
3 years relevant experience as a cook working within a commercial catering/Health Care facility.
Basic Food Hygiene Qualification
Reliability / Flexibility / Approachability / Tolerance,
Ability to work as part of a team.
Ability to Work on own initiative.
Good organizational skills,
Confidentiality,
Ability to listen and communicate with staff and Looked-After young people who reside in the home.
Ability to create a homely environment for the young people residing in the home.
