Band 2 Cook

Duration: 1 month initially

Rate: £11.45 p/h

Hours: 16 hpw

 

Key Duties

1. The preparation and cooking of meals for young people and staff.
2. To oversee and supervise the work of the Assistant Cook and ensure their practice is of an acceptable standard.
3. To carry out general household tasks in order to provide a clean and tidy environment.
4. Maintaining a warm, welcoming and homely kitchen and communicating positively with the young people who reside in the home.
5. Ensuring all purchases are within the homes agreed budget
6. Daily requisitioning of provisions.
7. Reporting any defects in same.Daily checking of stock, cooked foods, etc and temperature of refrigerators and deep freeze. Ensure, ‘Use By’ or ‘Best Before’ dates are adhered to.
8. Reporting of accidents.
9. Ensure the worktops, utensils and items of equipment are cleaned regularly

Criteria

1 years relevant experience as a cook working within a commercial catering/Health Care facility.

AND

NVQ level 1 & 2 in Catering Qualification or and Guilds 706/1 plus 706/2 or equivalent.

OR

3 years relevant experience as a cook working within a commercial catering/Health Care facility.

Basic Food Hygiene Qualification

Good organizational skills,

Confidentiality,

Ability to listen and communicate with staff and Looked-After young people who reside in the home.

Ability to create a homely environment for the young people residing in the home.
